POSITION OPENING
Watauga County Soil and Water Conservation Department is accepting applications for a temporary, contracted Conservation Technician Position. Position is responsible for providing technical services and oversight of the Emergency Watershed Protection (EWP) Program and Streamflow Rehabilitation Assistance Program (StRAP) with the Soil and Water Conservation Department, in response to continued Hurricane Helene waterway recovery efforts. Position provides technical assistance and oversight of EWP and StRAP Projects based on the determination of their conservation needs; and oversees the planning, design, and implementation of approved projects. Associate Degree in Natural Resources/Conservation or related field with some experience in soil and water conservation or any combination of education and experience which provides the necessary skills is required. Must possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. Salary of up to $52.00 per hour; includes a built-in allowance for use of the employee’s personal vehicle and travel/mileage expenses incurred related to the responsibilities and duties of the position. Temporary, grant funded position for 2026 with the possibility of a renewal or extension into 2027 as necessary until completion of approved EWP projects.
